A naturalist illustrator

Painter and sculptor. His abilities were developed in the Faculty of Arts of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica of Lima and at the National Autonomous School of Fine Arts, Peru. His constant journeys along the Andes and the Peruvian jungle, watching and learning from nature, led him to commit his work with the conservation of the environment and the sharing of this belief.

At the present, he records the flora and fauna of the cloud forest and the Amazon Rainforest for ecotourism projects of conservationist organizations, together in a team of scientists, ornithologists, biologists and botanists. His illustrations have been published in centers of environmental Interpretation, field guides, infographys, and specialized books.

To Oscar Vilca, being a naturalist illustrator means “having my outdoors office; it’s sitting on a branch with my pencil, paintbrush, binoculars and a camera all ready, waiting for our friends’ show up to register them, draw them with a craftsman’s patience, like Dedalo, feather to feather, having the great satisfaction of portraying nature."
